"Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit". - Brooks Atkinson
Saturday, October 4th, 2003. At 8 o'clock in the morning, under a threatening sky, I motor the Maria Jane upriver and haul her out for the winter. This is never a good day for me, but secretly I also feel a sense of relief: unpredictable fall weather is on the way followed by a New England winter and the boat is safer tucked away in the boat yard.

Motoring up-river, pulling the dinghy behind me. Notice the sails have been removed.

On the trailer being hauled out.

Another shot of Maria Jane on the trailer. This is the part that makes me nervous.
